“Don’t worry, everything will be okay”.\u00a0 How often have we been told there is no problem, instead of someone journeying with us through<\/em> the problem?\u00a0 In this Sunday’s homily (above), I talk about how we’ve become a culture where what we feel determines what is right, and how false compassion unintentionally cheats us from the growth and maturity that comes through dealing<\/em> with our problems.<\/p>\n

First Reading: Isaiah 50:5-9<\/h3>\n

The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, I turned not backward.\u00a0<\/span>I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.\u00a0<\/span>For the Lord GOD helps me; therefore I have not been confounded; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame;\u00a0<\/span>he who vindicates me is near. What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him?\u00a0<\/span>If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food,\u00a0<\/span>and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit?\u00a0<\/span>So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.\u00a0<\/span>But some one will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
